Licenses

What is the License tab?

The License tab is a web application on the developer portal that allows you to create and manage license keys.

What is a license key?

A license key is an alpha-numeric code that the app must pass to the SDK as a string during SDK initialization. The license key determines which features are available for the app to use, such as Model Targets or Cloud Recognition.

How do I get additional license keys?

For Basic plans, click Get Basic to generate a new license key in the Licenses tab.

For Premium and Academic plans, click Get Premium to generate a new license key in the Licenses tab. If this option is unavailable, you will first need to Buy Premium.

See the Engine Developer Portal Licenses for more information on how to generate and manage a license key.

NOTE: If you require additional license keys for other plans that is not listed here, please reach out to sales via our pricing page.

Can I use the same license key for the Android, iOS and UWP versions of my app?

Yes, you can use the same license key for the same app if it is deployed on more than one operating system platform (e.g., Android and iOS). In addition, the same license key can also be used across different apps and published to any region.

Can I use the same license key for mobile and digital eyewear versions of my app?

Yes, you can use the same license key for mobile, video see-through devices, and optical see-through devices.

What is the difference between the license key and the Cloud Database keys?

The Cloud add-on license key’s primary difference is that it must be associated with the Cloud Database in the Licenses tab. Only that way can your Cloud Recognition benefit from the added reco quota.

Use instead a Basic or Premium license key in your application to enable Vuforia Engine features.

What happens to my app when I cancel my license key or when my license key is suspended?

If you cancel your license key, or if your license key is expired/suspended:

  • New users of your app will not be able to access any Vuforia functionality.
  • Existing users will not be able to access Cloud Databases.
  • Existing installations of apps with Device Databases will continue to function.

NOTE: A canceled license key cannot be recovered.

Does my app need to connect to the internet?

No. Your app will work without an internet connection. However, some Vuforia features require some level of internet connection e.g., Cloud Recognition. See Vuforia Engine Data for more details.

Why do I see a watermark?

If your app includes the Vuforia Watermark, it is an indication that you are using Premium features with a Basic license key. To remove the watermark, obtain a Premium license key and replace it in your app.
