Area Targets
Are Area Targets supported for outdoor usage?
Unfortunately, not officially. It is difficult to scan and create an Area Target that reliably tracks an outdoor environment as such a scene would be heavily influenced by the seasons, sunlight, darkness, shadows, moving vegetation, etc. That being said, you are free to experiment and share your results with us. Some customers have been successful using Area Targets outdoors, by focusing on rigid surfaces like walls and other building structures and performing the scan during overcast conditions with even lighting.
Does Vuforia offer a GPS example for Area Targets?
Yes, we offer a tutorial on using GPS as an external “prior” to aid in Area Target localization. See Geolocation as External Prior.
What is a location prior?
A location prior is an injected external position that is optional when loading small Area Targets, but required when loading large Area Targets. The positional data you must inject can be in 2D or 3D in local space values along with an uncertainty radius value.
The type of data depends on the scenario but can include live GPS coordinates, Image Targets, distance sensor inputs, etc.
How do I copy Area Target Generator projects between work environments?
An ATG file is stored as a 3DT Space file. Copy the folder containing this file between work environments. In the ATG home screen, click 3DT Space and browse to the 3DT file.
How many Area Targets can there be in a database?
There can only be one Aera Target per database.
Ground Plane
What is the difference between ARKit, ARCore and Ground Plane?
Vuforia Ground Plane differs from ARKit and ARCore by supporting multiple platforms and a larger range of devices capable of using VISLAM and SLAM.
Is there a method to distinguish between the floor planes and table planes?
Yes, Vuforia Ground plane has a Height attribute which can be set in meters. The attribute represents the real-world height of the camera.
